A man was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over a land dispute at Kalai Gobindapur village in Sadar upazila on Monday.

The victim was identified as Bachchu Mia, 45, son of Abdul Hakim of the village.

Quoting locals, police said Bachchu had a long standing dispute with one of his neighbours over the ownership of a pond.

As Bachchu went to fish in the pond at about 10:30am, his rivals swooped on him and beat him severely with rods and sticks, leaving him critically injured.

He was taken to Sadar hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 11am.

    A case was filed.
