Most people hate shopping for baby food, mobile phones and video games, while 83 per cent would gladly splurge on chocolates, according to a new study.

One in four shoppers hate spending money on baby food, researchers found.

They said the reason is fear about buying the wrong product, as well as the need to get value for money, the 'Daily Express' reported.

However, the items that shoppers love to load into their trolleys include chocolates, chosen by 83 per cent of people, spirits (74 per cent) and wine (71 per cent).

Among the most "emotionally rewarding" products are toys for babies and toddlers.

A global poll of 13,000 shoppers - including 2,000 in UK - found that mobile phones are disliked by one in six people for shopping and video games by one in seven.

Another item, frowned upon by 14 per cent of those asked, is the computer printer.

The amount of research needed before choosing a particular phone or printer plays a part in their being disliked, as three quarters of consumers choose to compare brands.

The survey also asked people to vote for items they would describe as "I feel like the less time I spend with this product category, the better".

Here pies and pastries topped - with 30 per cent naming the hot savoury snacks as their answer. Not far behind as "the most boring but necessary purchases" are sauces and carbonated soft drinks.

The findings are in the People - Shop report - a study of shopping behaviour and attitudes carried out by shopper agency Arc.
