Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Thursday called on the voters to cast their votes for his party candidate in the Tangail-3 by-polls and thus express their no-confidence in the present government.

Addressing an election meeting in favour of his party-backed candidate Syed Abu Yusuf Abdullah Tuhin at Ghatail High School ground, the JP chief urged the voters to send out a message with this election that they no longer want this ‘corrupt’ government.

“People want a change and the process of this change will start with this by-election,” Ershad said.

Speaking on the occasion, JP presidium member Kazi Jafar Ahmed termed the by-election as a referendum against the government.

JP secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader also addressed the meeting.

The by-polls in the parliamentary seat are billed for November 18. The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP Dr Matiur Rahman on September 13.
