Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will stage demonstrations across the country on Wednesday protesting what it said countrywide mass-killing and demanding the release of its leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.

The Islamic party also threatened to go for tougher agitations like hartal and blockade if its Wednesday’s programme is obstructed.

In a statement on Tuesday, Jamaat acting secretary general Rafiqul Islam Khan said, “We announce countrywide demonstrations for tomorrow (Wednesday). Tougher programmes like hartal and blockade will be declared if either our peaceful programme is obstructed or gunshots are fired on innocent people.”

Meanwhile, BNP, the main ally of Jamaat, also announced the similar programme protesting the arrest of its leaders and activists and repression on them.

In the statement, Jamaat condemned and protested the recent attacks on houses and worship places of the Hindu community.

The party also demanded that those involved in the attacks be identified through a judicial inquiry and meted out punishment to them.

Jamaat also urged people from all walks of life to resist those oppressing the minorities.
