Jatiya Party (Ershad) Chairman HM Ershad on Saturday called for a change to establish peace in the country and said there is no alternative to effective dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties to resolve the prevailing political stalemate.

“We’re doing politics to establish peace in the country. The government will have to be changed through peaceful and credible polls maintaining democratic trend. People won’t accept any other means for change of power,” the former President said.

Ershad made the remarks when a delegation of Buddhist Youth Festival Group Bangladesh met him at his Banani office.

The JP chief said their slogan is - ‘We want change for peace’ - and urged all to come forward for bringing the much-sought change.

He observed that a dreadful situation is prevailing in the country and people of the country have become helpless following the activities of both the government and the opposition.

“People now want to get rid of this situation. That’s why JP wants to go to power in the future through contesting the next polls independently.

Ershad also voiced his dissatisfaction over the outcome of letters he had sent to the two top leaders over a month ago urging them to sit in a dialogue to resolve the political crisis.

JP secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar, Presidium member Sunil Shuvo Roy, Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Youth Festival Group leader Uttam Kumar Barua and Obhijit Barua were, among others, present.
