The government is going to impose Tk 100 as fixed tax/duty on replacement sims, in order to ensure transparency. Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday placed the proposal in parliament while placing his budget for the next fiscal. He said that presently, there is a fixed tax of Tk. 300 on the supply of every single piece of SIM card by the mobile operators and this will continue. There was no such tax on the supply of replacement SIMs however, he noted, that are provided when the original SIM is lost or damaged, for example. “It causes inconvenience in revenue accounting,” the finance minister said. Therefore, in order to ensure transparency, he said, a fixed tax of Tk. 100 on the supply of every single piece of replacement SIM would be imposed hereon in.
