Japan's leading IT companies are showing interest to recruit the Bangladeshi graduates who have passed internationally recognized Information Technology Engineers Examination (ITEE).

Chief executive officers of two leading IT companies -- Island Thrust and Pretty Edge of Japan -- met Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam Khan at his office today and expressed their interest to recruit Bangladeshi certified ITEE graduates.

"This is just the beginning. I had a talk to Japanese government high officials and dozens of companies during my visit to Japan last month and they have shown interest to recruit certified ITEE graduates from Bangladesh," said Khan.

CEO of Island Thrust Ryo Teruya and Managing Director of Pretty Edge Koichi Tani were among others present at the meeting.

The ICT Secretary said Japan is very keen to recruit ITEE level 3 and level 4 certified people from Bangladesh and the government is going to organize the ITEE for level 3 and level 4 after getting the IT Professionals Examination Council (ITPEC).

Capacity Building on ITEE Management Project Director Dr. Sheikh Amzad said a total of 47 candidates came out successful in the ITEE held in October 2013 and April 2014.

"The two Japanese firms will take interview of Bangladeshi ITEE certified graduates. They will recruit the ITTE certified graduates in two Japanese firms upon their satisfaction," he added.

Earlier, IT experts and officials at a function called for expansion of IT Engineers Examination (ITEE) in the country to create global standard IT efficient people to ensure better access to local and international job markets.

The ITEE, an international standard examination, would be hugely beneficial for the blooming IT business in Bangladesh, they told the function in the conference room of ICT Division on the occasion of distributing certificates among the successful candidates of ITEE.

Executive Director of Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) Rasheda K Choudhury, Secretary of ICT Division Md Nazrul Islam Khan, Charge d' Affaires of Embassy of Japan Horoyuki Minami and Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mikio Hataeda and Project Director of Capacity Building on ITEE Management Project Dr Sk. Amzad Hossain, among others, addressed the function with Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council SM Ashraful Islam in the chair.

Amzad Hossain said Bangladesh will get membership of Information Technology Professionals Examination Council (ITPEC) in September this year.

"The ITPEC has selected Bangladesh as its member after examining all criteria and we will get membership certificate in September this year," he added.

Amzad Hossain said after becoming a member of ITPEC, Bangladesh will have the authority to hold Information Technology Engineers Examinations (ITEE) every year.

Other speakers said the ITEE is the examination for evaluating skill of IT engineers and successful candidates will get global recognition, which will ensure easy access to job markets.

The ITEE can be a tool to fulfill the demand of human resources of local IT companies as Bangladesh IT industry faces hurdle in getting skilled manpower, they added.

In November, 2005, the ITPEC was formed to promote information exchange among examination bodies whose examination systems were established with support by Japan.

The six ITPEC countries are: Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Mongolia, Myanmar and Vietnam. Other six Asian countries that also recognize the test are: Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India and Singapore.
